I am an experimental ecologist at the University of Helsinki, based at Tvärminne Zoological Station. My research centers around understanding the impacts of anthropogenic stressors on aquatic ecosystems, and how changes in the underlying organisms relate to shifts in ecosystem functioning. This is accomplished through the use of microcosm, mesocosm and field experiments to identify the effect and mechanisms of stressors (e.g. warming, contaminants) on individuals, populations, communities and ecosystem functioning.

My current work focuses on the effects of heatwaves on Baltic sea coastal ecosystem. Previously, I’ve also investigated the impacts of microplastics and pesticide cocktails on freshwater ecosystems.
